The City episode Hull supporters remember instantly is the 5–1 Boxing Day defeat in 2008 and Phil Brown's on-pitch half-time team talk. It is a brilliant piece of Premier League history — and it predates this project's 2009/10 model window.
The City effect
Inside the audited period, Hull's results are much less dramatic. They move 16th to 13th in 2013/14. Their 2014/15 and 2016/17 relegation seasons each improve from 18th to 17th, but 17th remains in the bottom three of our 19-team model. City do not save them.

The butterfly effect 🦋
There is no need to manufacture a lost dynasty here. Hull reached an FA Cup final and Europe in recorded history, then went down in 2015, returned and went down again in 2017. The model shifts some positions but not those relegations. The honest story is the contrast between an unforgettable pre-window City moment and a surprisingly modest calculated effect afterward.
The legacy
Hull reached the 2014 FA Cup final, qualified for Europe and were relegated the following season. There is plenty of football history here, but the No-City calculation does not produce a hidden survival story. Sometimes the honest result is that the effect is modest.
